I can’t tell you how much I wish I’d found your site 3 years ago.
I’ve always wanted a Dane. In the past, I’ve adopted Greyhounds from the track, and adopted a senior citizen Saluki who was a grand champion show dog and just wanted a couch of her very own. I’ve been around the block when it comes to adoptions. So, in searching for a Dane to adopt, one obviously finds the GGR website. To make a very long story short, because my experience was just like everyone else who has posted, I was disturbed by the ill dogs that were presented. The Danes looked ill, weak, and lifeless with cloudy, vacant eyes. I adopted a St. Bernard puppy, because he begged me to take him. Like everyone else, I had to return to pick him up…he hadn’t been cleared because of an ear infection. When I returned, I was told he had a clean bill of health, and I needed to sequester my new baby for 2 weeks.
Never being one to follow bad advice, my baby had a visit with my vet the following day, and less than 24 hours after being “cleared” by the GGR vet, he had to be treated for worms, yeast, for a deep inner ear infection, and for dehydration and malnutrition. They also gave him a bath, and I was amazed to see his fur was actually white!
Now, 3 years later, I have a beautiful dog…who suffers still with chronic ear problems, has epilepsy, (which the Wards denied, and in fact asked me what I’d done to abuse the dog and cause the epilepsy!!) allergies, and a myriad of other issues. My vet says my baby displays all the indications of genetic weakness caused by inbreeding, no doubt at the hands of the greedy and careless Ward family. My vets advise me to enjoy every day we have with him as a gift. And that is exactly what I do.
Shame on the Wards. Shame on Norco for letting it continue despite numerous complaints. I send great kudos to you for standing up for your rights, for our rights, and for the rights of the animals. Thank you for making this forum available so others can be made aware, and avoid Gentle Giants and the Ward family.
Feel free to keep my name and email address on file, but not on the site. Kindly call me a Saint Lover in the public forum.
